Why We Do It
The Golf Cart Poker Run is not only an awesome and fun event for everyone but it's also a way to give back to our community. Each year ALL net proceeds from the event go to our local schools and brave volunteer firefighters.
The money that contributed to the Crenshaw School is spent on a variety of goods and activities throughout the year. These include school supplies for every student that are replenished several times, sports uniforms and workout equipment, science, art and technology equipment and programming for classroom activities and student intervention/extension support, clothing and personal hygiene supplies for students in need, playground equipment, gardening supplies, and field experiences to environmental and historical sites throughout Galveston County. The funds also support continuous learning opportunities for our teachers so that they may stay current and relevant in their delivery of lessons.
The High Island Schools plan to use the funds donated from the 2024 Golf Cart Poker Run to provide curriculum and instruction training, as well as teaching materials, for their faculty. Additionally, the Theatre One-Act Play Cast and Crew will utilize the money to replace worn stage props. Lastly, the school plans to purchase a new Cardinal Mascot Uniform to replace their 17-year-old, tattered version.
The High Island Volunteer Fire Rescue are using their donation towards the cost of purchasing new Motorola portable handheld radios for the volunteer firefighters.
